Wildsmith Skin is a British skincare brand for those who want to use beautiful, natural products but still demand evidence-based results. Our products are made with plant-derived and nutrient-rich botanicals, boosted with the latest bio-actives. We blend science with nature to create products that deliver clinically-proven results.
Wildsmith Skin introduces mycelium packaging: Can the answer to the world’s packaging crisis be found in fungi?
The Problem
Wildsmith Skin has made a commitment to sustainability and this is at the forefront of our minds when considering product and packaging solutions. Our goal was a packaging solution that protects the products without negatively impacting the planet.
The Solution
The mycelium packaging that Magical Mushroom Company produce is a completely new type of natural, compostable packaging that could replace less environmentally friendly options, such as plastic and polystyrene. The mycelium does not negatively impact the planet as it is completely organic. There is no risk of potentially harmful micro-particles entering the soil or sea. Mycelium simply breaks down without a trace.
The Results
Wildsmith Skin have produced three beautiful, compostable giftsets using the mycelium packaging material that align with our sustainability values as a brand, and have been well-received amongst our like-minded customers.
At Wildsmith Skin, we are always looking at ways to minimise our waste and provide sustainable solutions for our products and packaging. We worked with Magical Mushroom Company in 2019 to bring to market our first giftset as one of the first skincare brands to use mycelium in their packaging. Thanks to the overwhelmingly positive response, we have worked together with Magical Mushroom Company to launch another two sets this year in 2020 that have quickly become bestsellers. We are looking forward to future collaboration with Magical Mushroom Company.
